Trends from A/W 2022 Fashion Month - Yay or Nay

28 March 2022

And just like that, fashion month is over. From New York to London, Milan to Paris, the streets of the fashion capitals of the world were back. And they were better than ever after COVID 19 forced a lot of shows to go online or were toned down during the September 2021 season.

The Autumn/Winter shows are by far my favourite and this year did not disappoint with designers going all in. As always, there were some hits and some misses, so let's take a look...

Purple & Pink

When I think of Autumn/Winter, I think of orange and brown. But this year, so many designers opted for the brighter colour of purple and I’m not mad. Purple is the colour of boldness and there’s no better time to be bold than during the winter days. Valentino also added a bit of pink to the mix and I’m still not mad about it.

Verdict: Yay - especially on darker skin tones

Slouchy Denim

We’ve definitely said goodbye, au revoir and arrivederci to skinny jeans. Baggy denim was big at Paris Fashion Week and was paired with structured and fitting tops to add a layer of sophistication.

Nay - Even though I am rocking the slouchy denim in this post, I personally don’t rate this one.

Luxe Puffer Jackets

So the puffer jacket does the job of a coat - which is to keep you warm. It's functional, looks good and protects your outfit - where do I sign up for that? A puffer is perfect for any occasion. My favourite puffer/quilted jacket trick - adding a belt to tie it in at the waist for that extra chic look.

Yay - is it bad that I’m wanting the autumn to arrive just so I can wear a puffer jacket?

Hooded Coats

Whilst we are on the topic of coats, I am 100% here for the hooded camel coat that graced the Micheal Kors show. Not only is it beautiful, but it’s also practical in this unpredictable British weather.

Yay - especially the Micheal Kors one.

Micro-mini skirts

I just don’t get it. The micro skirt is basically a belt. The fashion world is loving the tiny trend at the moment - tiny bags (I actually like these) but tiny skirts - what is next?

Nay - maybe I sound like my mum but why is anyone leaving the house with just a belt on??

Bring on September for the SS23 shows!
