If there’s anything worse than a raging spot, it’s the mark on your face that the raging spot leaves when it’s gone. In my early teenage years, I went through a time where spots were all the rage. Literally All.The.Rage. Little did I know that getting rid of the spots wasn’t the only thing I needed to master. The aftermath of dark spots and hyper-pigmentation was another.
As I’m not a science expert, I understand hyper-pigmentation is the most simple of terms... when a spot heals, the body can sometimes produce cells with too much melanin in them to replace the damaged skin. This results in post-inflammatory hyper-pigmentation, a.k.a a dark spot. Makeup can do an exceptional job at covering dark spots, but working on them and improving my skin has always been on my ’skincare to do list’. And everyone knows the best foundation for makeup will always be great, healthy skin. So, when I spotted the Pigmentbio range from Bioderma, I knew I had to try it. The Pigmentbio range is tailored to treat hyper-pigmented skin on the face or body using a full suite of products including brightening cleansers, vitamin C serum, and moisturisers. Whether it’s Melasma, hyper-pigmentation, lentigines or age spots that you want to work on, the Pigmentbio range will help you get rid of dark spots whilst being kind to your skin. I tried out the Pigmentbio C-Concentrate, Pigmentbio Daily care SPF 50+, Pigmentbio Foaming Cream and the Pigmentbio H2O for just over 4 weeks and got some good results!
What I love about Bioderma products is that they are backed by science and proven to be effective, with many products having patented ingredients and the Pigmentbio range is no different.
Pigmentbio H2O
The Micellar water from Bioderma is my favourite product in every range. I used the Pigementbio H2O at the first stage of my skincare routine to remove make-up and prepare the skin for the rest of the range. This product is the right balance between effective but not aggressive. It’s the perfect pre-cleanse product. Personally, I would use this with all the other products in the range for the full effect.
Pigmentbio Foaming Cream
This is a super effective cream wash that exfoliates the skin really well. I really felt it left the skins complexion brighter and smoother. I used the Pigmentbio Foaming Cream as part of my morning routine for 4 weeks, and occasionally as a face mask a couple of times a week. The only nag I have is when it came to fully getting the exfoliating scrub off my face, I struggled. It took 3 or 4 attempts of thoroughly washing my face as I would find small crystals on my face, but it really proved effective when making the spots on my forehead less visible.
Smooth textured skin and less visible spots, a great win!
Pigmentbio Daily care SPF 50+
From a young age, I was told that applying SPF as part of my skincare routine is vital! Building SPF into your routine improves your skin's appearance and health, preventing sunburn, skin cancer and premature ageing. Having SPF inbuilt into your day cream protects your skin from some of the root causes of hyper-pigmentation such as sun damage. So I was delighted when the Pigmentbio Daily care cream had an SPF coverage of UVA / UVB 50+. The Pigmentbio Daily care cream focussed a lot more on evening out my skin tone as opposed to tackling some of the problem areas, it also provided a gorgeous glow that made it the perfect base for makeup.
Pigmentbio C-Concentrate
This is THE best product. With a efficacy rate of -41% for reducing dark spots, I was super impressed with how I was able to target certain areas with the pipet and see great results (more even and smoother skin) The serum is filled with a powerful dose of Vitamin C which is great for intense pigmentation correction. Not only does it hydrate the skin for 8 hours, it also leaves the skin feeling so luxurious and not greasy. It definitely takes first place as my favourite.
So, the big question is, did my hyper-pigmentation improve when using the Bioderma Pigmentbio range? I can certainly see improvements in the tone of my skin, with the areas of spots (predominantly on my forehead, but also on my cheeks) becoming a lot less visible. What is great about the Bioderma Pigmentbio range is that they are affordable which allows you to test certain products for a short period of time before deciding to full jump in and commit!
