There are two types of people in the world. The first type are the group that believe clothes are completely functional and are there to do a job, whether that be keep you warm or cool and most importantly not getting you arrested (as I think walking around stark naked is illegal in most countries). Then, there are the type of people (like me) who see clothes as a medium to expressing oneself. That being said I do tend to wear all black so I'm not too sure what exactly that says about me. I’ve never been good with colour, and I am super inspired by blogs such as Alex in colour and Ginger Natalie as these girls just smash the brightly coloured outfits out of the park. So, this year I have attempted to add a bit of colour and vibrancy to my outfits in the form of non black accessories. Introducing the white boots.
White boots are the perfect transitional shoe. You know that time of year where the weather deceives you as it’s cold outside but the sun is shining and you don’t want to be in the same dull black pair of boots that you have been for the past 3 months. I love the freshness of the white boot look, but it’s taken me 22 years to own a pair (although I may have had some quite questionable white ballet pumps when I was younger...but we don’t speak about them). So why has it taken me so long? I’d hate to buy them and mess them up, as they’re white any scuffs or marks are likely to shoe ten times more. Or is it because I don’t see anyone else around here wearing them? Well not anymore.
So far in my white boot wearing I’ve paired them with dark colours as they make a great statement piece and stand out against a black or grey colour palette. I have just shot another outfit in which I go for the monotone look pairing these little booties with a black & white dogtooth blazer. While we aren't going to try and pretend white boots are as practical as their black, brown or burgundy counterpart but they are plain which means they look good with almost anything, regardless of simplicity or complexity of outfit - white boots are great if you plan to wear a neutral outfit, say a white tee and blue jeans but they’re also a great accessory when wearing colourful, printed garms.
The ones I own are flat cowboy esque - I love the boots with a hint of western style. They're like marmite, you either love or hate them. And yes, you may have to think a bit more about how you wear them, but they do add a whole other of vibrancy to your outfit.
