Your Valentines day sorted

17 January 2019

With Valentines Day just around the corner, don’t look any further because your perfect date night is sorted (just call me Cupid). No matter who you’re heading on a date with;  a special someone, best friend, mum, dad, cousin - these Pretty Little Thing outfits are everything and more that you need for the perfect V-day day and night date outfits.

I’m a big fan of day dates that run into the evening, as it often means you spend more time with your special someone, but I often run into the question of ‘what the hell do I wear?’. A problem nearly every female has, as they stare into their overfilled wardrobe. Let’s take the classic activity of going for lunch, which turns into a couple of drinks in a bar, which turns into a lot of drinks in a bar and before you know it, it's 3am. But the big question is, what on earth do you wear?

When you think Valentine’s Day you typically think pink or red, and whilst these are two colours that look great on most skin tones, this wouldn’t be a ‘What Maya Wears’ blog if I didn’t add a dash of black to it. So for the first of my Valentine’s Day daytime dates (think afternoon tea, a boat ride, lunch or the theatre). The ‘skirt’ in the images is actually the Mairee Dusty Pink Satin Pleated Midi dress from Pretty Little Thing. However, I’ve teamed it with a jumper from Mango (similar) for the ultimate day time glam.

And if you’re extra like me and require an outfit change, say hello to this little beauty, the Pink Lace Panel Tiered Body Dress. I’ve had my eye on a dress like this for ages - it’s pretty and pink, with absolutely stunning detail. I’ve paired it with the Clover Nude Strapped Heeled Sandals, as I never usually wear completely pastel palettes so this was something I wanted to try this Valentine’s Day. Verdict: Perfect for drinks and dinner in the evening.

And whilst we’re on the topic of valentines day, Pretty Little Thing have supplied the goods, now you’re going to need somewhere to go. If you’re London based and in need of somewhere to go, my top Valentine’s Day date spots are:

Day
  1. One of the many reasons I love Valentines Day is because it’s the start of chocolate season. Shops are stocked to the brim full of chocolate gifts. And what better way to get chocolate season started than a Charbonnel et Walker chocolate-filled afternoon tea at May Fair Kitchen. Another great afternoon tea to have with your someone special or gals is at Sketch Gallery (because there’s unwritten rule that dresses should match the toilet and if you don’t know what I’m talking about, click here)
  2. As taking a helicopter ride across London is very expensive (and highly predictable 😉), seeing the city from above with a ride on the Emirates Air Line cable car is a great alternative of an activity to do at dusk.
  3. And last but not least, the classic Thames Lunch or Dinner Cruise - combining food , drink, live entertainment and some of London’s best sites, it’s an experience you’ll never forget.

Bonus date idea: I shot this outfit in The Knot Churros cafe is South Kensington which would make a great place for a catch-up over coffee.

Night
  1. A Jazz Cafe is a great date place regardless of whether it’s the 14th February or not. And London is a city with so many great Jazz Cafes to choose from. One of my favourites is Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Bar.
  2. Is there anything more romantic than gazing at stars, planets and galaxies at the Royal Observatory Greenwich. Nah, I think not.
  3. This one is über cool. Fabric have a digital culture display as part of their Valentine’s Day programme. Experience black mirror in real life through gaming, art and technology. You can enter up to 3 exhibition zones then start voting on a number of gaming and mixed reality experiences.

So, put on the dress, spritz your favourite perfume and be ready to dazzle your date.

This post was in collaboration with PrettyLittleThing, however all opinions are my own.
