2018 year in review & 2019 New Years Resolutions

28 December 2018

And just like that another Christmas is done and dusted, another year is over and the year of 2019 will soon be here (I think, the days between Christmas & New Year are all a bit of a blur). Apart from continuing to eat and drink, I like to use the days in between Christmas and New Year to reflect on my past year, this time I’m doing it whilst sitting on a deck chair by a pool near the coast of North Africa…could be worse.

I love reading posts like this because a) i’m the noisiest person you will ever meet and b) when people write about their year and their plans for the future you get inspired.

So this year I thought I’d do one, in attempt to keep up with my quarterly updates…(which miserably failed), for two reasons a) if I’m nosey, there must be a lot of other people out there that are also nosey, if so more nosey (i wonder if that’s a thing) than me, and b) it holds me accountable for the year ahead.

At the beginning of the year, I sat down and said to myself, ‘right, this is the year where I’m going to take my blogging seriously'. I aimed for 2-3 posts a week. Yeah, okay some weeks were better than others but the intention to grow my blog was there. I enjoy my blog, it’s a little corner of the Internet where I can write about fashion, lifestyle, travel, society and also rant - you can’t forget the ranting element. 2018 was the year I focused on developing the content I wanted to develop, and took my blog to new levels. This time last year I worked with the first fashion photographer to develop high quality images for my blog and I have never looked back. I started a new series on my blog called ‘Fashion & Society’ after having a conversation with an editor at the BBC which inspired the series. Through this I interviewed two great individuals and by developing content that interests me I have received feedback from the most amazing readers and it touches me every time someone says something nice about my blog because as i said, most of it is just ramblings. 2018 was also an ridiculous year in terms of collaborations (to caveat, ridiculous in the good sense) In the past 12 months/365 days, I have worked with some of my favourite brands, which I hope to work with in 2019. Some of the brands I’ve had the pleasure of working with this year are Huawei Mobile, Imperial Leather, Welly Merck , Jack Wills, Panasonic Beauty, NICCE, Clive Christian, Specsavers, Green & Blacks, National Theatre Live, Nude Jewellery, Femme Luxe, Ideal of Sweden, Tobi, Panasonic, MSC Cruises, Graze, Simon Schuster & Grom.

This year has been truly great and next year, I will again focus on my blog but have a different objective in mind, and that's growth. Grow my DA score, grow my readership, anything that can grow, I will try to grow.

Personally, I have learnt an awful lot about myself, whether it's relationships, which can be found in the posts ‘A letter to my 17 year old self’ and 'thank u, next' or knowing that I can only have a cup of tea when it’s piping hot and will not settle for anything less (girl has got to have standards) I have done my fair share of reading self development books - some good, some bad but all have taught me to look at myself and put in the work in order to become an even better person in 2019. I also need to qualify as an adult so learning how to cook, being wiser with my money (potential blog post) and driving in London are 3 things on the #2019goals list.

Travel wise, I wrote a post at the start of the year with the 8 places I really wanted to visit in 2018. Whilst I only visited 3 out of 8 places on that post, I managed to get away 7 times this year - mainly in the European Union as I think the deadline of the UK leaving the EU has put pressure on me to visit as much of Europe whilst I can. Nevertheless, 2018 was the year of the city break. I got to see new things, experience new cultures and eat new foods (the latter being the most important) but 2019 is the year of the long haul trips, is that South East Asia on the cards? Yes, yes it is!

Professionally, I have developed so much in the last year. My work is completely different to my blog and the topics I write about on my blog (maybe its that what keeps me interested in both). However earlier this year I became a lot more confident in the professional environment (my experiences of this coming in a blog post soon). When I compare where I was this time last year, I’m proud of how far I've come and am so excited to see how far I’ll go. Another thing I look forward to in 2019 is focusing on me, myself and I - pursuing the channels i want to. Which brings me onto my other (currently non existent) side project I’m hoping to kick start i 2019, watch this space.
