Ten coats you need this autumn

9 October 2018

Coat season is finally upon us (the coat lover inside me just let out a little scream).

There are so many coats and jackets out there, it's hard to look around without wanting to buy everything. So, to help you (public service), I've put together a list of the 10 coats you need this autumn. To caveat, I'm not trying to turn you into a shop-a-holic or coat-a-holic (yep, I just made that up) - but you try saying no to some of these beauties.

1. You can't have a top 10 coat list without featuring the teddy bear coat. It wasn't until this year (when I actually tried one on) that I was converted into a teddy bear coat fanatic. Top picks from Topshop, Missguided and Barneys via ASOS

2. This is one of the pricier options out there, and also to caveat it's a coat suited for when there is still  a decent temperature outside. Any temperature below 10 degrees and you may struggle to keep your body temperature at a healthy level. I saw this Simone Rocha coat on the lovely Lydia Millen as part of the spring content on her channel and just had to source it out.

3. Last year,  I bought a gold puffer jacket from H&M very similar to this one from Boohoo (despite the fact the linked one is silver), swiftly returning it after 2 weeks of staring at it in my wardrobe thinking I couldn't pull it off. Well I could and this year I will.

4. I rediscovered Gossip Girl on Netflix over the weekend, so I said goodbye to any plans of being social/productive over the weekend and hello to convincing myself that watching hours of gossip girl in bed on a Sunday evening is okay. And it turned out to be,  as it brought me content for my blog. Whilst I love Serena Van der Woodsen, I also love Blair Waldorf and her coat collection. More specifically her capes. Everyone needs a cape like this one from Closet London in their wardrobe, Wearing a plain outfit? Capes come in all colours, designs and embellishments - your perfect fashion statement. And we're all superheroes right?

5. What would autumn be without a camel coat? Everything goes with a camel coat and if you want to blend into those autumn leaves then camel is the one for you (just kidding, who wants to do that...not me).  September and October are the months where it requires physical effort to detach me from my camel coat - all black outfit...camel coat, autumnal outfit...camel coat. It takes a lot to stop me wearing camel in the autumn months. This beauty in my pictures is from New Look

6. Nothing says winter sass like a bit of fur. This Miss Selfirdge black faux fur fit and flare coat is everything.

7. The long coat satisfies every desire I have to want to leave my apartment in my dressing gown.  That may be deemed unacceptable, but no one ever questions a long coat. I throw on a long coat whenever I'm wearing a short skirt and ankle boots - yes wearing a short skirt may defeat the point of keeping warm, but at least it looks cute. Topshop leading the way in looking cute.

8. When you don't want something too full on but keeping warm is a top priority, then the aviator jacket is the perfect transitional coat. Pair with jeans and boots for a chilled autumn vibe. Now the big question is whether to go black on black or camel on white?

9. Animal print. This seasons hottest trend? In a coat?? Say no more - ASOS & NA-KD killing it.

10. Say hello to my work coat. This is the coat I have in my work wardrobe as my go to Monday - Friday coat. I bought mine from Zara over a year, the navy colour is perfect and goes with almost anything (yes, even that red dress I'm currently wearing on the train to work) and I like to think it's super sophisticated, it's all in the pinstripes *i think* - This Whistles one may have caught my eye.
