As we come to the end to The Careers series, I thought I'd share my general top career tips for Students at College or University.

1) Get in there early.
Even if you're first year, it's never too early to start planning your future. Planning early gives you great time to understand what field you really want to go in and gives you plenty of time to learn more about. Last year, I was the only first year at many career events. Although it was daunting, it put me way ahead of the game.

2) Make a timetable.
Chances are, if you make a timetable with important dates of application deadlines and interviews, you're 100000% more likely to stick to it and reach better levels of productivity. (Not an actual fact, but it works).

3) Network. Network. Network.
Probably the most awkward thing to do ever. Companies now even hold special events giving you 2 hours to network. How awkward. Despite its awkwardness level being on 1 million, networking is really useful as it gives you a chance to gauge what employees working in that firm are like and allows you to ask any questions you deem inappropriate in a interview situation.

4) LinkedIn.
I'm still new to this but I've heard it's really useful. It's basically the social media tool for the professional world. It gives you a great platform to get to know important people on a more personal level and some people have even been recruited via LinkedIn.

5) Don't be afraid to ask.
You've heard the saying, no question is a stupid question. Don't be afraid to dig deeper and ask why. It is important to learn how things work and gain feedback in order to improve for next time. As you ask questions you understand why things are the way they are.

6)Take initiative
If employees don't advertise a internship or work experience position. Email and ask if you can work for free. This works especially well in creative industries and smaller companies. All firms love a free worker and you'll have something to add to your CV. It's a win win situation! Find out what problem you face and find a solution.
